Pilophyllia was named by Ge and Yü (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u S Wenl-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Kodonophyllidae by Hill (1981); to Amplexidae by Chen et al. (1997); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
