Cassianastraea was named by Volz (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Tr Nori-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Lemniscateridae by Roniewicz and Stanley (1998); to Lemniscaterina by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cassianastraeidae by Stanley and Zonneveld (2011).
