Grampus griseus (Risso's dolphin)

Taxonomy
Delphinus griseus was named by Cuvier (1812). It is extant. Its type specimen is MNHN, a skull (stuffed skin and skull). Its type locality is Brest, which is in a Holocene coastal horizon in France. It is the type species of Delphinus (Grampus).

It was synonymized subjectively with Grampus cuvieri by Gray (1846); it was recombined as Grampus griseus by Gray (1828), Scott (1873), Trouessart (1904), Turner (1912), Oliver (1922), Dal Piaz (1929), Hershkovitz (1961), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Hershkovitz (1966), Barnes (1977), Vidal (1991), Rice (1998), Mead and Brownell (2005), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008), Geisler et al. (2011), Perrin et al. (2013), Jefferson (2021).
