Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
L. G. Barnes et al. 1995A subfamily of Aetiocetidae having cranium with short intertemporal region; occipital shield large, with arcuate anterior margins; postorbital process of frontal thick and elongate; zygomatic process of squamosal large, elongate, and arched dorsally; septum of vomer extending posteriorly on basicranium as far as the middle of the tympanic bullae; differing from Chonecetinae by having shorter inter- temporal region, larger occipital shield, larger and more arched zygomatic process of squamosal, larger posterior process of squamosal extended laterally between squamosal and exoccipital; and differing from Morawanocetinae by having longer intertemporal region, thicker postorbital process of the frontal, prominent temporal crest on the posterior margin of the supraorbital process of the frontal, anterior edge of the squamosal fossa that forms the anterior edge of the glenoid fossa with a notch laterally, prominent septum of the vomer extending posteriorly as far as the middle of the tympanic bulla, basioccipital crests parallel, not diverging posteriorly, peribullary sinus expanded anteriorly from tympanic bulla, not medially from bulla into basioccipital, tympanic bulla relatively large, and smaller teeth.
