Taxonomy
Cophocetus oregonensis was named by Packard and Kellogg (1934) [Condon Museum, University of Oregon]. Its type specimen is UO 305, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Old Tower, NW, which is in a Burdigalian shallow subtidal shale in the Astoria Formation of Oregon.
