Democricetodon similis was named by Fahlbusch (1964) [from Giggenhausen, Germany]. Its type specimen is Slg. München 1952 XIV 287, a mandible (right lower jaw,), and it is a 3D body fossil.

V. Fahlbusch 1964Small Cricetidae, a little bit bigger than Democricetodon schaubi, morphologically very similar. Lower molars: Paraconid of M1 elongated, with a round, mostly unsplit tip; ridges bent forewards; mesolophid short; ectoflexid (Aussenbucht) transversal or slightly bent to the back. Upper molars: Paraconid of M1 furrowed, considerabely broad; ridges of upper M1 bent backwards, transversally orientated on M2; length of mesoloph half or threequaters, mesoloph often melt together with paracone-spur; lingual-flexus (Innenbucht) transversally orientated or bent to the front.
