Baltemys was named by Hutchison (1991). It is not extant. Its type is Baltemys staurogastros.
It was assigned to Staurotypinae by Hutchison (1991); to Kinosternidae by Hutchison (1992), Holroyd et al. (2001), Joyce et al. (2004), Lichtig and Lucas (2015); to Kinosternidae by Joyce and Bourque (2016); and to Kinosternidae by Lichtig et al. (2018).
