Pakibune was named by Thewissen et al. (1987). It is not extant. Its type is Pakibune chorlakkiensis.
It was assigned to Diacodexeinae by Erfurt and Sudre (1996); and to Dichobunidae by Thewissen et al. (1987), McKenna and Bell (1997), Theodor et al. (2007).
