Eomaia was named by Ji et al. (2002) [Family incertae sedis]. It is not extant. Its type is Eomaia scansoria.
It was assigned to Eutheria by Wang et al. (2006); to Eutheria by Ji et al. (2002), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004) and Zhou and Wang (2010); to Eutheria by Bi et al. (2018); and to Mammalia by Velazco et al. (2022).
