Taxonomy
Ziphiodelphis abeli was named by Bassani and Misuri (1913). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pietra Leccese, which is in a Burdigalian/Messinian transition zone/lower shoreface limestone in the Pietra Leccese Formation of Italy.
