Squalodon catulli

Taxonomy
Pachyodon catulli was named by Molin (1859) [No type specimen number is listed by Mollin (1859). Kellogg (1923) states that the type specimen was in the Museum of the University of Padova, Italy, but are now lost.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Libano, which is in an Aquitanian marine sandstone in the Libano Sandstone Formation of Italy. It is the type species of Trirhizodon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Squalodon bariensis by Dal Piaz (1901); it was synonymized subjectively with Squalodon bariense by Dal Piaz (1916); it was recombined as Trirhizodon catulli by Kellogg (1923); it was misspelled as Squalodon catulloi by Zittel (1894) and Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Squalodon catulli by Brandt (1873), de Zigno (1876), Lydekker (1887), Roger (1887), Lioy (1896), Rothausen (1968), Sanders et al. (1982), Pilleri (1985), Bianucci and Landini (2002) and Symeonidis et al. (2004).
