Megaptera hubachi
Taxonomy
Megaptera hubachi was named by Dathe (1983) [No type specimen number is listed in Dathe (1983). Type info from Demere et al 2005.]. Its type specimen is MB Ma 28570, a skeleton (nearly complete skeleton with damaged portions of cranium, rostrum, and mandibles, and associated axial skeleton and pectoral elements), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bahia de Guayacan, which is in a Zanclean slope horizon in the Coquimbo Formation of Chile.
It was considered an invalid subgroup of Balaenopteridae by Bisconti (2010), Marx and Fordyce (2015) and Tsai and Boessenecker (2017); it was recombined as Balaenoptera hubachi by Hampe and Baszio (2010); it was recombined as Plesiobalaenoptera hubachi by Bisconti et al. (2021).
It was considered an invalid subgroup of Balaenopteridae by Bisconti (2010), Marx and Fordyce (2015) and Tsai and Boessenecker (2017); it was recombined as Balaenoptera hubachi by Hampe and Baszio (2010); it was recombined as Plesiobalaenoptera hubachi by Bisconti et al. (2021).
