Taxonomy
Macromia was named by Rambur (1842). It is extant. It is the type genus of Macromiinae.

It was assigned to Corduliidae by Zhang (1989); to Macromiidae by Nel and Paicheler (1994); and to Macromiinae by Steinmann (1997).
