Dromius was named by Bonelli (1810). It is extant. It is the type genus of Dromici.
It was assigned to Carabiques by Dejean (1821); to Dromii by LeConte (1861); to Lebiina by Sahlberg (1880); to Lebiini by Abdullah (1969), Tamutis et al. (2011); and to Dromiusina by Bouchard et al. (2011), Kirichenko-Babko et al. (2021).
