Taxonomy

Scarites was named by Fabricius (1775). It is extant. It is the type genus of Scaritides, Scaritina.

It was assigned to Coleoptera by Latreille (1796); to Eleuterata by Fabricius (1775), Fabricius (1798); to Fossores by Latreille (1802); to Carabiques by Dejean (1821); to Scaritini by LeConte (1861); to Carabidae by Zhang (1989); to Scaritinae by Lutz (1990); and to Scaritina by Bouchard et al. (2011).
