Taxonomy
Phoca pusilla was named by Schreber (1778). It is extant.
It was recombined as Arctocephalus (Arctocephalus) pusillus by Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Arctocephalus pusillus by Turner (1912), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Repenning and Tedford (1977), Riedman (1990), Deméré et al. (2003), Wilson and Reeder (2005), Werdelin and Peigne (2010), Berta and Churchill (2012), Cullen et al. (2014) and Berta et al. (2018).
It was recombined as Arctocephalus (Arctocephalus) pusillus by Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Arctocephalus pusillus by Turner (1912), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Repenning and Tedford (1977), Riedman (1990), Deméré et al. (2003), Wilson and Reeder (2005), Werdelin and Peigne (2010), Berta and Churchill (2012), Cullen et al. (2014) and Berta et al. (2018).
