It was assigned to Phocidae by Berta (2017); and to Devinophocinae by Koretsky and Holec (2002), Koretsky and Rahmat (2015), Rahmat and Koretsky (2016), Rahmat and Koretsky (2018), Berta et al. (2018).

Koretsky 2018	Mandibular body low in height (as in Monachinae and Phoci- nae); symphyseal part of mandible thick and straight (similar to Monachinae); diastemata between teeth absent (as opposed to Cystophorinae, Monachinae and Phocinae); unique incisor combination I3/1 (as opposed to Cystophorinae, Monachinae and Phocinae); p4 alveolar width and length greater than those of m1 (similar to some Monachinae and Phocinae).
