Taxonomy
Pteronarctos goedertae was named by Barnes (1989). Its type specimen is LACM 123883, a skull (skull), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jumpoff Joe, which is in a Burdigalian marine siltstone in the Astoria Formation of Oregon.
