Taxonomy
Callorhinus gilmorei was named by Berta and Deméré (1986). Its type specimen is SDSNH 25176, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is San Diego Formation ("Lower"), which is in a Piacenzian foreshore horizon in the San Diego Formation of California.
