Taxonomy
Pinnarctidion bishopi was named by Barnes (1979). Its type specimen is UCMP 86334, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pyramid Hill, upper concretion-bearing bed, which is in an Aquitanian marine sandstone in the Jewett Formation of California. It is the type species of Pinnarctidion.
