Taxonomy

Semnopithecus was named by Desmarest (1822) [also attributed to F. Cuvier]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cynopithecinae by Schlosser (1877); to Colobidae by Jablonski (2002); to Colobinae by Whittaker et al. (2006); to Colobinae by Wilson and Reeder (2005), Osterholz et al. (2008), Fleagle (2013); and to Cercopithecidae by Burgin et al. (2018).
