Acaremyinae was named by Ameghino (1902). It is not extant.
It was considered an invalid subgroup of Octodontidae by Wood and Patterson (1959); it was reranked as the family Acaremyidae by Wood (1949), Kramarz (2004), Kramarz et al. (2010), Vucetich et al. (2014), Arnal and Vucetich (2015), Arnal and Vucetich (2015) and Vucetich et al. (2015).
It was assigned to Chinchilloidea by Wood (1949); to Hystricognathi by Kramarz et al. (2010); and to Octodontoidea by Kramarz (2004), Vucetich et al. (2014), Arnal and Vucetich (2015), Arnal and Vucetich (2015) and Vucetich et al. (2015).
