Taxonomy
Sahelanthropus was named by Brunet et al. (2002). It is not extant. Its type is Sahelanthropus tchadensis.
It was assigned to Hominidae by Brunet et al. (2002), Cela-Conde and Ayala (2003); and to Hominini by Strait et al. (2015).
