Taxonomy
Bellerophon punctifrons was named by Emmons (1842). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Undulabucania.

It was recombined as Bucania punctifrons by Raymond (1902), Weller (1903), Grabau and Shimer (1909), Bassler (1932), Wilson (1951); it was recombined as Undulabucania punctifrons by Wahlman (1992), Ebbestad (1999), Wagner (2023).
