Cyrtolites dyeri was named by Hall (1872). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Conradella dyeri by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Cumings (1908); it was recombined as Phragmolites dyeri by Grabau and Shimer (1909), Bassler (1915), Bradley (1930), Wahlman (1992), Ebbestad (1999), Wagner (2023).
