Taxonomy
Bellerophon dilatatus was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839) [Bellerophon dilatatus de Sowerby in Murchison 1839]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Bellerophon dilatatus by d'Eichwald (1860); it was recombined as Tremanotus dilatatus by Reed (1921); it was recombined as Salpingostoma dilatatum by Northrop (1939) and Ebbestad (1999); it was synonymized subjectively with Salpingostoma kokeni by Wagner (2023).
