Stylonuridae was named by Diener (1924). It is not extant. Its type is Stylonurus. It is the type family of Stylonuroidea, Stylonuracea.
It was assigned to Stylonuracea by Størmer (1955); to Eurypterida by Novojilov (1958); and to Stylonuroidea by Tetlie et al. (2007), Lamsdell et al. (2010), Dunlop et al. (2013), Dunlop et al. (2020), Lamsdell (2025).
