Taxonomy
Knightites was named by Moore (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 109,797]. It is the type genus of Knightitinae.

It was assigned to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Knightitinae by Knight (1956), Knight et al. (1960) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
