Taxonomy
Plesiocetus gervaisii was named by Van Beneden and Gervais (1868). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Poussan, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in France.
It was recombined as Cetotherium (Plesiocetopsis) gervaisii by Brandt (1873); it was corrected as Plesiocetus gervaisi by Trouessart (1904) and Joleaud (1906).
