Hippopotamus creutzburgi

Taxonomy
Hippopotamus creutzburgi was named by Boekschoten and Sondaar (1966). Its type specimen is BNHM-M10286, a maxilla (fragmentary upper jaw, with P4–M3 left and right and palatum), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Katharo Hippo Locality 1, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial claystone in Greece.

G. J. Boekschoten and P. Y. Sondaar 1966Tetraprotodont Hippopotamus of small size (M'-M 3 about 10.2 cm, about 11 cm). Mandible rather delicate as compared with Hippopotamus amphibius. Astragalus and navicular articulating surfaces with considerable flexibility anteroposteriorly (70°). Tarsal and carpal bones with clear articulation surfaces on the medial and lateral sides.
