Taxonomy
Moeritherium lyonsi was named by Andrews (1901). Its type specimen is CGM C.10000, a mandible (almost complete mandible without associated upper teeth), and it is a 3D body fossil.

Synonyms
  • Moeritherium ancestrale was named by Petronievics (1923). Its type specimen is BMNH M.9225, a skull (skull and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Moeritherium lyonsi by Tobien (1978).
