Eoplatanista taurinensis was named by Pilleri (1988) [Regional Museum of Natural History, Turin]. Its type specimen is PU 13898, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Colle di Torino, which is in a Burdigalian marine horizon in Italy.
