Youngoolithus was named by Zhao (1979). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Youngoolithus xiaguanensis.
It was assigned to Faveoloolithidae by Zhao (1979), Mikhailov (1991), Mikhailov (1994), Mikhailov et al. (1994), Mikhailov (1997), Cousin (2002), Simón (2006), Liang et al. (2009), Fernández (2013); and to Youngoolithidae by Zhang (2010), Zheng et al. (2018).
