Glyphodeta was named by Donald (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise P u Sepkoski's reference number: 797]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Murchisonia (Glyphodeta) by Yakowlew (1899).

It was assigned to Murchisonia by Yakowlew (1899); to Murchisoniidae by Knight et al. (1960); and to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
