Tironucula jugata was named by Morris and Fortey (1976) [TYPE REPOSITORY: Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge; TYPE LOCALITY: Lower Ordovician, Spitsbergen.]. Its type specimen is A85181 and is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Tironucula.
