Paenesorex bicuspis

Taxonomy
Paenesorex bicuspis was named by Ziegler (2003) [Holotype kept in Naturmuseum Augsburg]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is NHMA P6-01051 A1, a mandible. Its type locality is Petersbuch 6, which is in a MN 7 + 8 fissure fill horizon in Germany. It is the type species of Paenesorex.

Ziegler 2003Medium-sized soricid, characterised by the combination of the following features: soricine condyle with deep lingual emargination and broad interarticular area; lower incisor bicuspulate, two antemolars between p4 and incisor, a2 tiny, partly hidden by p4; p4 single-rooted with incipient disto-lingual basin; m inf. with weak and low entocristid; m3 talonid reduced to hypoconid and two weak crests; short maxillary zugomatic process above the posterior root of M2, infraorbital foramen above the middle to posterior root of P4 to anterior root/middle of M1, lacrimal foramen above posterior root of M1; anterior margin of the orbit above M2; 4 single rooted antemolars between P4 and incisor, A4 tiny; P4-M3 similar to Sorex.
