Mactra anatina was named by Spengler (1802) [DISTRIBUTION: USA: North Carolina, Florida: East Florida; USA: Texas; MAX. SIZE: 44 mm]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Labiosa anatina by McGinty (1970); it was recombined as Anatina anatina by Hendy et al. (2008).
