Taxonomy
Deinogalerix brevirostris was named by Butler (1980). It is not extant. Its type specimen is RGM 179134, a skull. Its type locality is San Giovannino, which is in a Vallesian/Turolian fissure fill horizon in Italy.

Diagnosis

P. M. Butler 1980Smaller than D. koenigswaldi but a little larger than D. freudenthali and D. minor; P3-M3 of holotype 39 mm, M1 of holotype 8.5 x 11.5 mm, p3-m3 of paratype 43 mm. Differs from D. koenigswaldi in that the face is much shorter, postcanine teeth much less spaces and sagittal crest is lower.
