Taxonomy
Desmana pontica was named by Schreuder (1940) [Desmana pontica is the type species of Archaeodesmana.]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is MNH Budapest Ob/5074, a set of teeth (C-P2 in situ).
It was recombined as Dibolia pontica by Rümke (1985); it was recombined as Archaeodesmana pontica by Martín-Suárez et al. (2001), Cailleux et al. (2024).
