Taxonomy
Lantanotherium longirostre was named by Thenius (1949). It is not extant. Its type specimen is CJG 4017-4019, a set of teeth (Mand. sin. with i1-c, p2-m3 and upperteeth of P3-M3). Its type locality is Leoben (old collection), which is in a MN 5 terrestrial horizon in Austria.

E. Thenius 1949Art der Gattung Lantanotherium mit vier P inf., caniniformem, einwurzeligem, senkrecht stehendem Eckzahn von rundlichem Querschnitt. Von den schräg eingeplflanzten Incisiven i1 und i2 mit schaufelförmiger Krone, größer als i3. Mandibel lang mit konkavem Unterrand in der Prämolarenregion. p2 und p3 im Verhältnis zum großen p4 stark reduziert. Oberkieferbezahnung wie bei L. sansaniense.
