Taxonomy
Capricamelus gettyi was named by Whistler and Webb (2005). Its type specimen is LACM 124002, a skeleton, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Tecopa Lake Beds, which is in a Blancan lacustrine mudstone in the Tecopa Lake Beds Formation of California. It is the type species of Capricamelus.
