Proteopithecus sylviae
Taxonomy
Proteopithecus sylviae was named by Simons (1989). Its type specimen is CGM 41886, a maxilla (left maxillary framgent with M1-3 and associated P3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry L-41 (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian lacustrine mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt. It is the type species of Proteopithecus.
