It was misspelled as Huqingtherium by Guérin and Pickford (2003); it was synonymized subjectively with Hispanotherium by Deng (2003).
It was assigned to Elasmotheriinae by Tong (2001); to Iranotheriinae by Guérin and Pickford (2003); and to Elasmotheriina by Antoine et al. (2002), Antoine (2003).
