Pseudocyon gerandianus was named by Viret (1929) [type selected by de Bonis 1973 from the specimens described by Viret]. Its type specimen is FSL 213828, a mandible (mandibular fragment with p2-m1), and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Ysengrinia gerandiana by Ginsburg (1965), Hunt (1998), Hunt (2002).
