Venus exalbida was named by Dillwyn (1817) [DISTRIBUTION: late Neogene; Argentina.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Samarangia exalbida by Carcelles (1944); it was recombined as Retrotapes exalbidus by Nielson and Valdovinos (2008); it was recombined as Retrotapes exalbida by del RIio (1997), Rosenberg (2005), Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
