Buccinopsis was named by Conrad (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Buccinidae by Sohl (1964) and Sohl (1964); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
