Taxonomy
Protostega eaglefordensis was named by Zangerl (1953). Its type specimen is TMM 924, a partial skeleton, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Lake Waco Dam, which is in a Cenomanian marine shale in the Eagle Ford Formation of Texas.
