Haplentactinia was named by Foreman (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren D Fame Sepkoski's reference number: 154,546]. Its type is Haplentactinia rhinophyusa.

It was assigned to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); to Haplentactiniinae by Wang et al. (2003); to Entactinaria by Maletz and Bruton (2008); and to Haplentactiniidae by Noble et al. (2017).
