Taxonomy
Sirenites was named by Mojsisovics (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites senticosus. It is the type genus of Sirenitinae.

It was assigned to Trachyceratidae by Spath (1951) and Astakhova (1971); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sirenitinae by Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994) and Lukeneder and Lukeneder (2014).
