Taxonomy
Typhis harrisi was named by Olsson (1914) [TYPE LOCALITY: Alum Bluff, Florida (Miocene). TYPE REPOSITORY: PRI, New York.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is TU 73 - "Dripping Springs" [Jackson Bluff Fm], which is in a Pliocene coastal sandstone in the Jackson Bluff Formation of Florida.

It was recombined as Typhis (Typhina) harrisi by Keen (1944); it was recombined as Typhis (Rugotyphis) harrisi by Gertman (1969).
